Is the configurator free to use
Yes, the configurator on the homepage is free with no account or email required. Enter a length, width, and height, pick a wood species, and get a cut list, boards to buy, hardware, and soil volume.
Why is the end board shorter than the width I entered
The long boards run the full outside length, while the end boards sit between them at a butt joint, so each end board is the width minus twice the board thickness, about 3 inches total for a standard 2x6. The configurator calculates this automatically from the actual milled board thickness.
Do I need a center brace
The configurator adds a center brace once the length or width reaches 84 inches, since a long unsupported wall can bow outward once the bed is filled with wet soil. Shorter beds do not need one.
What is the difference between the free plan and the paid Build Pack
The 4x2 Starter Plan is a one page printable plan for the most common first bed size, free after providing an email address. The Raised Bed Build Pack is a paid, more complete document with six full plans, exploded views, hardware guides, build variants, and a wood chapter.
Does the soil calculation include the corner posts
No, the soil volume is based on the interior floor area and the wall height, which is the space the posts and boards actually enclose, not the outside footprint.
